Damien Walters Showreel 2009

Dude is fliptacular.

Hate the Game, Not the Player?

So much going on in our state right much to comment on and tweet about...But since I'm so bad at tweeting, (Confession: I still haven't done it! Although I have lots of people "following me," and I have yet to figure out what that even means!), and my opinions get quite wordy, I thought I'd post something here today about just one thing that got my blood boiling this morning.

Instead of having a link to the Nugget of Wisdom from one of whom I affectionately call the Regular Radicals who writes Letters to the Editor in the Journal Times, I thought it was outrageous enough to copy here:

Wisconsin man charged with shooting deaths of girlfriend and two children. Two men arrested in a Friday midnight shooting. Two men shot late Friday night. (These two stories are not about the same shooting!) Pizza delivery man robbed by man with gun. Man robbed of wallet at gunpoint. Can anyone detect a societal problem here? Maybe having a gun-crazy society is not a great idea? Maybe having the NRA OK our gun laws before they are introduced into legislative bodies is not a great idea? Maybe we should teach our children how to play ball instead of how to shoot guns? Maybe we should teach our TV and movie writers how to write dramas without people shooting each other? Maybe we should just learn how to get along with each other?

I left out the author's name, because I don't want to bring any more notoriety to this guy--he and I were pen pals while I was in the legislature. (In fact, he may have been president of my fan club...uhh, no.)

Anyway, two things jumped out at me while reading this--and the accompanying Kumbaya theme that played through my head simultaneously:
1. Clearly this Clueless Clown doesn't see the main theme of his points: the Law-Abiding Citizens were UNARMED, therefore making them susceptible to violent crimes against them.
2. Note how he wants to "teach our children to play ball instead of how to shoot guns." Hmm, how about teaching our children to read, write and do arithmatic? Novel concept that seems to fall on deaf ears at the Teachers' Union and those dem's opposed to real education reforms.
3. Are you kidding me?! The last Rodney-King-esque comment is laughable were it not so naieve. Teach us all how to get along? With all the mandated work-place seminars on sexual harassment and racial discrimination, does he really think we're not being TAUGHT how to get along well with others?

Here's how you teach Thugs: Punish them for their crimes. Hey, how about Truth in Sentencing? You know, having someone serve a 15 year sentence--the FULL 15 YEARS.

I have a suspicion this particular Regular Radical is all in favor of letting these guys out--like his fearless leader Jim Doyle is promoting.

Think there's gun violence now my friend? Wait til these upstanding felons (oxymoron) get sprinkled back into Racine. Maybe we can give them a seminar and strum a folk guitar? Yeah, I bet that'll work......

I just sent this to Senator Lehman.

While Racine struggles with a 17% unemployment rate you and your Democrat partners in the dead of night increased taxes and fees in a regressive way on the people in your district. These increases will hit those struggling to get by especially hard.

You made it more difficult to do business in so many ways.

You increased auto insurance rates on everyone which will mean some people will be forced to operate vehicles without insurance.

You rewarded people who are not in our country legally and joined those who called it a revenue enhancement.

You took fees that were supposed to sunset and diverted them into the general fund.

You raised already high health care costs.

You increased taxes on every cell phone and land phone.

You turned convicts back onto the streets.

You rewarded unions and trial lawyers while you screwed average taxpayers and saddled them with newly created fees and cleverly hidden taxes.

You made school choice harder to operate while you repealed the QEO which will send education spending spiraling upwards out of control.

You eased up on the tracking of sex offenders.

You increased fuel taxes and guaranteed Wisconsin a long expensive court battle.

You built a do not enter sign and placed it at the state border for any business that ever considered doing business here.

In short, you made an already ridiculous tax burden ever worse.

I am beyond outraged Senator.

More Administration ought to do it

I thought RUSD was making a turning point with Dr. Shaw who came into the position ready to hear what the people had to say.  Now I see that we are going to add another person with superintendent in the title, bringing the total to 5.  If you were to canvass the taxpayers, teachers, principals, etc. would you find an outpouring of people crying "if only we had another administrator!"  My guess is no.  The district already top heavy, averaging 100 more positions at central office than districts of comparable size.

The RAMAC controlled school board will of course rubber stamp this spending item without questioning the need for yet another suit wearing desk jockey.

It was taxapalooza at the Joint Finance Committee meeting in Madison last night.

Not only did they slam in Drivers Licenses for illegals but they also increased your auto insurance rates, made Wisconsin roads less safe and raised the cost of gas.

Drivers Licences for Illegals

The Democrats have inserted for a two year drivers "card" for illegals.

Zero opportunity for public input on this, it was slid in at the last moment.

Democrats in the legislature are completely out of control.

And they just passed this idiocy

Wisconsin taxpayers are getting savaged tonight.

So Let Me Get This Straight.

Illinois Senator Roland Burris still says he did nothing wrong because he was lying when he promised Rod Blagojevichs's brother he would organize a fund raiser through his law firm.

So his defense is I lied to get an appointment as a Senator....

Now, those are the kind of ethics I want in a Senator. (End Sarcasm)

This piece of scum should be thrown out of office, he should have never been seated in the first place. Every day that Democrats allow Burris to serve in the Senate is another day they are guilty by association.

Can we call this a culture of corruption?

Joe Leibham's Report on Finance Committee's Sneaky Meeting

Turn on the light and see the roaches scatter! Here's a supplement to the earlier MacIver Institute post on the State Legislature's Joint Committee on Finance's secret Memorial Day weekend budget meeting. Senator Joe Leibham wrote in his May 28 e-Update. "Such a meeting on a holiday weekend is an extremely rare occurrence, especially in a state where we pride ourselves on conducting business in an open and honest fashion."

The Senator continued, "Any time a legislative committee conducts a voting session on a weekend or holiday, when citizens are so busy with other activities, it ultimately raises questions as to whether the members of that committee are seeking to hide something. While this may or may not be the case, I wanted to inform you of some of the budget provisions that the JCF voted to approve on the Saturday of the Memorial Day Weekend."

Leibham lists the following provisions:
- Unionizing home health care – Require that all qualified providers of individual in-home health care services in Wisconsin be subject to unionization.
- Welfare fraud – Reject a proposal to make welfare fraud a felony.
- Prevailing wage – Substantially expand Wisconsin ’s prevailing wage laws to, among several other things, lower the state prevailing wage threshold from $200,000 to $25,000 and apply the law to private projects receiving more than $1 million in direct public funding.
- Fines for pharmacists – Specify that a pharmacist who refuses to distribute contraceptives be subject to a state-imposed fine of $250 - $2,500.
- Garbage tax increase – Increase the garbage tax, or “recycling tipping fee”, by $3/ton. This is 300 percent above and beyond what the Governor had requested and amounts to a tax increase of $16.8 million.
- Condoms for boys and men – Expand the Medicaid Family Planning Waiver program to allow for the distribution of condoms and other contraceptives to boys and men ages 15-44.
- Vehicle title fee – Adopt the Governor’s proposal to eliminate the sunset of the Vehicle Environmental Impact Title Fee, which had been scheduled to terminate at the end of 2009.

Senator Leibham also reported that the JCF approved the following late on Friday, which the MacIver report also details:

- In-state tuition for illegal immigrants – Allow illegal immigrants who have been in Wisconsin for at least three years to receive in-state tuition rates at UW System schools and Wisconsin technical colleges if the individual provides an affidavit that he/she will file an application for a permanent resident visa.
- Domestic partner benefits – Require taxpayers to provide retirement and group health insurance benefits to the same-sex partners of state employees. The JFC added that, “The Legislature finds that it is in the interests of the citizens of this state to establish and provide the parameters for a legal status of domestic partnership.”

The 9th district Senator said, "While it is not specifically against the law for the JCF to deliberate these proposals on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, Wisconsin residents have a reasonable expectation that state business will be conducted in a manner that is respectful of the people and our open government tradition. Why did the Democrats, who control the Committee, feel they needed to vote on these items out of the regular public spotlight?

"I do not support these provisions. But even if I did, I do not believe it is in the best interest of good governance to have these discussions and votes take place in this fashion. Conducting budget business on a holiday weekend casts a shadow over everything that was passed that day. This was definitely not a “Memorable” weekend for good government in Wisconsin."

Leibham's May 28 e-Update will soon be posted on the Senator's website.

Real Headline or The Onion?

I found this headline from JSonline and wondered what was on the lunch menu that day.

This might make a nice quiz type post not unlike the "Guess the Number" Fred does.

Don't bring it here.

Gay activists are upset with The Emperor....

And some people are worried about futbal

OK, so my favorite futbal team just signed a new "wunderkind" from Brazil (via Germany for €24.5 million -- thats about $34.25 million US dollars for signing fee alone).

Sadly, futbal was not the first thing I thought of when I saw this on ESPN.

I'm going to regret this, to venture a guess what was?

(sorry, Fred)

Of Course Roland Burris Lied...

He is an Illinois politician after all.

Deficit Attention Disorder?

I wish I had written that.

Guess the number game

Washington Times:

With Judge Sonia Sotomayor already facing questions over her 60 percent reversal rate, the Supreme Court could dump another problem into her lap next month if, as many legal analysts predict, the court overturns one of her rulings upholding a race-based employment decision.

Three of the five majority opinions written by Judge Sotomayor for the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals and reviewed by the Supreme Court were reversed, providing a potent line of attack raised by opponents Tuesday after President Obama announced he will nominate the 54-year-old Hispanic woman to the high court.

"Her high reversal rate alone should be enough for us to pause and take a good look at her record. Frankly, it is the Senates duty to do so," said Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America.

The Dream.

The POTUS's nominee for SCOTUS (couldn't help myself) got me to thinking of the definition of the "American Dream."
Can you imagine it?

Being born in abject poverty…
Raised with no sewage system or roads…
With no father, your mother is making only a few cents a day performing manual labor…
Not even being allowed into your local library because of your ethnicity…
Moving in to a new home – which finally included indoor plumbing – after the home you're in burns to the ground…
Following your heart to attend a seminary, but ultimately having to drop out because of the extreme racism you encountered…
Persevering to attend an Ivy league law school and finally being selected to be on the Supreme Court of the United States.

I would call it an amazing story.
The ultimate American dream.

Unless, of course, you’re a conservative black man.

Then, all those that say are for you and what you believe make you the punchline to a sad joke.

Its an art thing..

I guess I wouldn't understand. Someone please help me out.

The blindfold represents impartiality "in order to indicate that justice is (or should be) meted out objectively, without fear or favor, regardless of identity, power, or weakness."
OK, I get that.

I'm guessing the sword is.........justice?
OK....this is the part that gets me:

What's representing empathy?

I was out for a few minutes today and flipped on Limbaugh.

I wanted to see what they other side thought and flipped on Ed Schultz. I could not believe my ears. Whoever Ed had on was saying that we don't have any liberals on the Supreme Court now, Ginsberg is a moderate and Sotomayor was far too conservative.

I almost drove off the road.
