Running the risk of re-hashing a well-told and documented story of corruption, I thought it important that everyone see County Exec Allan Kehl pled guilty and looks to be facing 2 years in prison. What do other inmates think about rooming with a former Sheriff for cripes' sakes?! (He was Kenosha County's longest serving Sheriff, at that.)
I've watched this story with interest, as I've worked with Allan while I was in the senate. He came across as a non-ambitious, laid back, wrinkled shirt kinda guy. The thing I liked most about him was his willingness to buck his Democrat Party affiliations at times. He really seemed to have the best interests of Kenosha county at heart. He also appeared to be a guy who was equally frustrated by government machinery getting in the way of progress.
But inmate-to-be-Allan finds himself standing alone in the face of this scandal for the time being. No doubt it comes across as scurrilous and shady. I mean really, accepting money in a bag in someone's garage?! Even drug dealers are more sophisticated than that today.
So, while I'm disappointed in someone I thought actually had integrity (and was even a Democrat!), I guess I'm not surprised. The casino deal in Kenosha was a high-stakes game. Certainly not for the politically faint of heart.
It appears that the Troha web has caught many of the "who's who" in Kenosha politics. There are more charges to come, according to reports. Speaking of......hey, why hasn't anyone loudly demanded Senator Bob Wirch return the Troha contributions he received? And wouldn't you think that'd be the first thing Bob would do seeing what's happening around him? Or does he think that he, too, is made of Teflon like his esteemed Governor Doyle?
My teflon pans only last so long, though. For a while I'm cocky with them--using metal spatulas as if the pan is indestructible. It's not until the first sticky omelette that I realize you can't abuse teflon.
Senator Wirch, I hope for your sake you've been using plastic spatulas.....
