Welcome to Real Debate Wisconsin (RDW). This is primarily a conservative blog but we always welcome input from all points of view. Things get heated upon occasion but we ask that our readers do their best to keep things civil and respect all participants. We always welcome guest posts, so if there is something you would like to share feel free to email me at fkd1015 at yahoo dot com.
Today we are taking RDW out of Racine and into Pewaukee for a taxpayer Rally sponsored by the Wisconsin Club for Growth and Americans for Prosperity.
From their website:
Wisconsin Club for Growth, Inc. is dedicated to informing, educating and rallying citizens of Wisconsin to embrace and enact policies that lead to sustained economic growth, limited government, and minimal taxation. Americans for Prosperity (AFP) and Americans for Prosperity Foundation (AFP Foundation) are committed to educating citizens about economic policy and mobilizing those citizens as advocates in the public policy process.
The Master of Ceremonies for the event is Milwaukee County executive Scott Walker, and the keynote speaker of the event is the former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich.
Newt of course has his detractors but polling out this week showed Newt to have a 46% approval rating of how he handled the job as Speaker after he led the GOP into the majority in 1994. That same poll gave current Speaker Nancy Pelosi a 36% approval.
Speaker Gingrich has had his issues of late, he recently admitted to cheating on his wife in the midst of the Clinton/Lewinski scandal, my opinion on that can be found here. While I obviously do not approve of the way the man handled that issue he is a brilliant student of history and on top of the pulse of the nation.
This introduction was prewritten; the following comments are a live stream of events as they occur.
I ran into State Rep Joel Kleefish and asked him what was going on in Madison; he tells me Assembly Republicans are going to pass a zero tax increase budget. Great news, Joel.
Also among the crowd I found RDW Field Surveillance Agent #2, I told him to take the day off; I would cover the event for him!
MC, Scott Walker looking bright and dapper in his red tie. He looks like a man who has $6,900,000 plus buffer in his county bank account. Funny he just made a joke dealing with that, his main point is the media will not give conservatives a fair break on getting their message out. 5 straight budgets without a levy increase, some might think that would be impossible. Kudos Mr. County Executive.
Walker, “Who is going to stand up for the taxpayer”?
Hmm, there is a guy from the Associated Press sitting across from me, it will be interesting to see how they report based on what we will report. Walker just pointed out that this event went off completely by internet, no invitations were sent out.
1st Speaker, Vicky McKenna a conservative talker from Madison of all places. You may have heard her lately filling in for Jay Weber on WISN.
Life is Good… Life is Good if you can still afford to live in Wisconsin. The only reason we are now ranked 8th in taxes is because two other states have raised taxes above ours. We are #1 in property tax per value…
If life is good why is WEAC suggesting to their retirees do so someplace other than Wisconsin?
(she talks fast)
It is getting to the point where average Joe sixpack can’t live here any more.
The power just went out!
She is still talking! Doyle called this the budget for the middle class.
Examples of taxes, nursing home bed tax, sick tax $360 per admit, real estate transfer tax, property tax double, 165% on tobacco, tuition increases, car rental tax 650%, 36% on car and vans, truck 183%, hunting fee 350%, gas tax up 5 to 7 cents a gallon, vital records tax up 40%, dry cleaning tax 55% increase, 2 cents a can on soda, phone 1.8 billion, vehicle title up 20% +, the winner tax on lottery (still making it up), personal protection tax 275% to buy a hand gun, tax on developmentally disabled (unannounced,), lemon law sales tax refund – gone.
This Governor is a flat out liar and his budget slays me.
Robin Vos just said hi.
Rut Roh, beer taxes going up!
Wisconsin is not good if you do any of these things that Doyle is wanting to tax.
Vicky just asked if Owen from Boots and Sabers is here, nope just little ‘ole Real Debate Wisconsin. Owen is at Radio City.
They gave us microphones, use them, reach out and contact your legislators!
Walker is back, in 1994 a man came on the scene who said we need to go to the American people with a clear focus and clear cut ideas to take to the voters. For the first time since Eisenhower the Republicans took the majority. Since Newt has been off the scene we have seen Republicans act more like Democrats than Republicans.
Ladies and Gents, Newt Gingrich.
Thanks for having me…
If you take anything away from this speech remember one thing; you can make a difference.
Look at the total outrage on the Senate looking to take up the immigration bill. Overwhelmingly people are opposed to this.
(Reince Priebus just said hi)
Yet even though people are overwhelmingly opposed to this plan these Senators are moving ahead anyway. There is a disconnect.
This country was founded by people who refused to bow. This country was founded by people who thought government should not tax too much or get too big.
I would hope you would encourage everyone you know to contact everyone they know and get them to contact their Senator this week and tell them to kill this bill.
When we passed the last immigration bill we were promised the border would be enforced, what happened?
Regarding the border agent who let the TB Patient in & said, “I looked at him and he seemed fine”, even though his computer told him not to admit and not talk to him unless you are in a bio-hazard suit.
If you want a passport you have to wait 3 to 6 months, but we are supposed to produce a Z visa in 24 hours…. (great point).
I’m not making this stuff up; this is what the Senators have written.
An amendment was defeated that said you can not offer sanctuary to a known terrorist.
You live in two worlds, a world that works and a world that fails all at the same time.
Think about the world that works and the world that does not…. How many of you have gone online and tracked a package? With the right setup we can send and track millions of packages. Now we have the federal government, they can not find 12 million illegal aliens. Let’s spend a couple hundred million dollars and send a package to every illegal immigrant, UPS will find them, problem solved.
I’m fed up with this red vs. blue argument. We are a Red White and Blue country. 92% believe we need to pursue long term solutions vs. short term fixes. 85% believe we need to defend American and our allies.
There are 511,000 elected officials in this country. You can not fix this country just in the White House.
91% of the country believes in “One Nation Under God”
89% of the public believes in the public ballot without being forced to join a union.
So what is going on in Madison?
Left-wing politicians believe the money is theirs; no, working people of Wisconsin, that is your money.
In America and Madison we take more money to shove it into plans and programs that fail.
RAISING TAXES KILLS JOBS.
If there are not any jobs, there will not be any taxes; which part of that don’t they get? The reason they never get that is that their interest groups do not care. This is a fight between interest groups that want your taxes and you.
If Governor Doyle had campaigned openly and honestly on a policy of increasing taxes he would have lost. He knew that.
I hope all of you will contact your state representatives and tell them you will only accept a state budget that has no tax increases, period.
You should be happy with a tax cut; you should not accept a tax increase.
More choices of higher quality with higher convenience is what we demand of the private economy, we should expect the same from our government.
Why would you give the world that works less money than you give to the world that fails?
Investigators say that Ald. Michael McGee used his anti-crime Rapid Response Team to demand bribes from business owners in his district, according to a federal search warrant filed Thursday.
The affidavit in support of the warrant alleges that McGee invoked "the name of the organization to extort money from the business owners," saying the money they pay would be used to improve the area. Instead, McGee used the money for personal expenses, according to the affidavit signed by FBI Special Agent Daniel Hargreaves.
Owners who didn't pay up risked losing their liquor licenses, it says. One business owner who wanted help with a license agreed to pay $20,000 to the team after meeting with McGee, who later said he would use the money for his moving expenses, the affidavit states.
Jesus and Satan were having an on-going argument about who was better on the computer.
They had been going at it for days, and frankly God was tired of hearing all the bickering.
Finally fed up, God said, "THAT'S IT! I have had enough. I am going to set up a test that will run for two hours, and from those results, I will judge who does the better job.
"So Satan and Jesus sat down at the keyboards and typed away.
They moused. They faxed. They e-mailed. They e-mailed with attachments. They downloaded. They did spreadsheets! They wrote reports. They mail merged. They created labels and cards. They created charts and graphs. They did some genealogy reports They did every job known to man.
Jesus worked with heavenly efficiency and Satan was faster than hell.
Then, ten minutes before their time was up, lightning suddenly flashed across the sky, thunder rolled, rain poured, and, of course, the power went off.
Satan stared at his blank screen and screamed every curse word known in the underworld.Jesus just sighed.
Finally the electricity came back on, and each of them restarted their computers. Satan started searching frantically, screaming:"It's gone! It's all GONE! "I lost everything when the power went out!"Meanwhile, Jesus quietly started printing out all of his files from the past two hours of work.
Satan observed this and became irate."Wait!" he screamed. "That's not fair! He cheated! How come he has all his work and I don't have any?"
I know I'm writing with the burning anger that the Brewers were just no-hit in Detroit. Really what could you expect with this line up?
Counsell, 3B Graffanino, 2B Hardy, SS Fielder, 1B Hart, RF Jenkins, LF Estrada, C Hall, CF Gross, DH
Why Ned Yost just randomly picks names out of hat to put on his lineup card, I will never know, but I'll step forward and say it's time for him to go. He has lost the ability to assess players talent and abilities. Counsell and Graffanino should never be in the same line up unless there is some horrible multi-vehicle accident involving all of the other infielders. Yost has them batting 1 and 2 tonight. Who is his DH, Gabe Gross, when you have a perfectly capable Braun and Gwynn sitting on the bench chewing seeds. Ned What the #$%@ goes through you mind?!? (Catharsis complete)
The Democrats took power in 2006 born of a frustrated electorate seeking change. The nation threw a fit and said let's do something different.
Nancy Pelosiet. all promised to run things differently.
When they took power, they forgot all about their promises and instead set upon a path to attempt to destroy what was left of the Republican party and President George W Bush. Investigations, committees and witch hunts do not equal leading.
The promised inclusion got thrust aside for payback. All those years of being in the minority apparently created so much angst that when given a chance to lead the Democrats decided to attack instead.
Look at the war funding bill. They knew Bush would NEVER sign that with a set timetable for withdrawal of our troops. They put that in there strictly for a game of political gotcha. They got their headlines.
Now we have William Jefferson of Louisiana with 16 indictments (a Congressional record). The people who put this bunch in power are mad, they get the fact this makes Democrats look quite the hypocrites in the wake of their "culture of corruption" rhetoric.
Talk about your corruption, Wisconsin very own Dave Obey wants to now slide pork projects into bills after they have been voted on. Whew, now that is some real responsibility. Well they did say they would change earmark spending. They did, they made it sleazier if that was possible.
In an amazingly short time Congress has actually acquired an approval rating LOWER than the President's.
Look right here in Wisconsin, Jim Doyle campaigned on no tax increase then turned around and put forth $1.75 billion. Wisconsin Democrats have disagreed with precisely NONE of Doyle's tax increases. That will play right into the hands of the Republicans in the next election.
My advice to the right, keep letting the left sew their oats. The more they act like themselves the less likely the American voters are to vote them back into office.
SEFFNER - While animal control officers rounded up dozens of pets that poured out the door and milled around a rundown home off Parsons Avenue, Marti Ryan took a cursory look inside.
"There were rotten floorboards and a very strong smell of ammonia," the Hillsborough County Animal Services spokeswoman said Monday, standing outside 81-year-old Myrtle Stewart's house at 2403 Parsons Ave. S., south of Wheeler Road.
Investigators discovered and seized about 50 dogs and cats that were neglected and "in rough condition," Ryan said. The animals are being assessed at the county animal shelter on North Falkenburg Road.
"My understanding is that Ms. Stewart is just a sweet old lady who was trying to do something nice for the animals and got in over her head. Lots of times in cases like these it's a slow, steady accumulation of animals," Ryan said.
Why yes, it was a fab weekend. A book, an iced americano, and a stone ledge to sit on outside the Alterra lakefront - not much could have been better. Although, Paris going back to jail was pretty good. But given the choice between a weekend such as the last and good news about Paris... well.... do I have to choose? Let's see what else was on the menu cette semaine:

JARNS, NITTLES, GRAWLIX, and QUIMP - Various squiggles used to denote cussing in comic books.
KEEPER - The loop on a belt that keeps the end in place after it has passed through the buckle.

Hillary has named impeached former Judge Alcee Hastings as the Co-Chair of her National Campaign committee. Hastings of course was impeached for corruption (taking a $150,00 bribe) and perjury (lying about the same case) which are high qualifications to being elected to the House of Representatives if you are a Democrat (Florida 23rd District).
This is of course a purely race politics move. Hastings is an African American and Hillary will be looking to add as many high profile African Americans as she can to offset Obama's momentum.
So Hill has already told us she will appoint the also impeached Bill Clinton as roving Ambassador to the world.
What's next, putting William Jefferson (D) Lousiana in charge of raising campaign cash?
A 14-year-old boy became the youngest of seven shooting victims in a day of gunfire in Milwaukee that started about noon on Sunday with the homicide of a man on the city's northwest side.
The latest shooting occurred about 12:02 a.m. today in the 3600 block of W. Clarke St. The 14-year-old teen was walking home from a party with a friend when he heard gunshots and felt pain in his right leg, according to Milwaukee police. The boy was taken to a hospital for treatment of his wound. A short while earlier, a 41-year-old man was shot in the stomach in the 2400 block of N. 21st St. about 11:45 p.m. He went into surgery and was in critical condition but is expected to live, police said.
The shootings were among a total of six that occurred in the city throughout Sunday, including the death of a 27-year-old man about 12:15 p.m. in the 2600 block of W. Victory Lane...
...There have been no arrests in any of the shootings, police said today. Milwaukee is a war zone and this story will not get outside of the papers of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. I wonder if Mayor Barrett thinks this is a crisis yet?
SAN FRANCISCO - California may become the only U.S. state to require the sterilization of pets under a bill passed by the state Assembly, pitting dog and cat lovers against animal rights activists.
“It’s a horrific bill,” said Maureen Hill-Hauch, executive director of Castleton, New York-based American Dog Owners Association, adding that enforcement of the bill in theory could wipe out California’s dog population.
The bill would require pet owners to spay and neuter their dogs and cats, or face a $500 fine for each animal.

Darlene Jenkins said the woman was arrested on a pending charge of disorderly conduct after allegedly making the threat during a phone call to Madison High School around noon Friday. The woman told police she'd made the bomb reference to her daughter, not to school officials.
