Katrina - One Year Later,

What have we learned????

Some initial thoughts:

  • Jim Sensenbrenner was 100% right to ask about cost controls and/or accountability measures that were absent in relation to federal funds heading to Katrina relief. Everyone who attempted to vilify him over that vote should offer up and apology.
  • Mississippi showed us how to pull together, get to work and recover.
  • New Orleans showed us how to whine, play the blame game and avoid personal responsibility.
  • Race based politics are being kept alive by those who benefit the most from them.
  • If the people of New Orleans were dumb enough to re-elect Ray Nagin, can they rebuild their own city?
  • No matter how much money you send, some people will say it is not enough.
  • While literally everyone at every step along the way screwed this up, some people still refuse to spread the blame any further than 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Those same people that refuse to place any blame on anyone with a (D) after their name think they should run this country.
  • Even though to the same point this year we have had 6 fewer named storms and all of those storms have been significantly less intense as the ones last year, we are still supposed to believe that global warming is creating more storms and increasing their intensity. If global warming is getting progressively worse then why are this years storms so much less of a big deal?
  • The residents of Houston wish the residents of New Orleans would go home.
  • Michael Brown is a cry baby.
  • Everytime it rains in the gulf, the weather-geeks go crazy.
  • Louisiana and New Orleans diverted untold millions, perhaps billions, of federal dollars designated for levee fortification to other pet projects. Why no ivestigation into that activity?
  • Environmentalists fought hard against levees that could withstand a category 5 storm, they won, category 3 levees were built. Those same environmentalists completely escape blame. (they blame Bush)
  • Louis Farrakhan may be the biggest liar in this country. He is one the biggest racists in this country, yet he still gets attention.
  • Spike Lee may be the third biggest liar in this country. (he has not yet overcome Michael Moore.)
  • $122 billion and it is still beneath sea level.
