Who is Voces de la Frontera

As reported earlier members of Voces de la Frontera violated the home of State Senator Cathy Stepp last night shouting and attempting to intimidate her into signing driver license legislation for illegal immigrants.

I took the following from their website:

Description of Agency/Activities: Voces de la Frontera is a low-wage and immigrant worker's center that opened in Nov. 2001. The center was created to respond to the immediate problems low-wage immigrant workers face. The center provides a legal clinic where workers can obtain free legal advice about labor and civil rights, as well as ongoing English language and citizenship classes. The agency provides classes to train workers and other immigrants about discrimination, OSHA regulations, labor laws, worker's compensation, legalization and work visas, and more day-to-day topics such as how to obtain a driver's license, how to buy a house, and how to fill out taxes and open bank accounts. Ongoing campaigns include legalization and access to higher education for immigrant students.

Notice any trend there? All kinds of training on how to get government cash and sue people, nothing on job training or English language courses or fitting into society.

But wait there is more.

According to a US Newswire release from 10-29-04 , Voces de la Frontera registered some 5,100 Latino and African American voters in low income areas. At the same time the group was critical of Republican efforts to confirm fraudulent activity in regards to voter registrations, taking the leftist line that such efforts were only going towards voter suppression.

Can you seriously tell me a group so exercised about getting drivers licenses for illegal immigrants took any effort at all to see that the persons they were registering to vote were legally able to do so? I seriously doubt it.

Bur wait there is more.

The infromation I took was from a Marquette website where students go to do service learning. So Marquette is at least minimally supporting this group as a viable community agency worthy of volunteer work. Additionally Marquette students are recruited there to assist in get out the vote efforts. Students from Political Science 118 ONLY: Can work as a group or individually, researching current elected officials and candidates to find out their stand on certain issues, their personal backgrounds, who their financial contributors are, and other relevant information. Students will compile this information into Legislative Information Sheets, which are distributed throughout the neighborhood to educate voters. Spanish skills are helpful, but not necessary, because they would like to have the information sheets in both Spanish and English. This placement involves primarily weekend hours. I am certain these information sheets were not strictly informational, containing no partisan slant.

There could not possibly be more, but there is.

There were allegations from a watchdog group, Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), that said Voces de la Frontera volunteers in Racine and Milwaukee registered fraudulent voters. Milwaukee DA Mcann refused to do anything about it (typical) saying he could not prove the identity of the registrars. He did issue the following warning to anyone else testing the system, "Anyone who tries to test the system from now on will be criminally prosecuted no matter who they claim they are working for or what they're testing,"

And we also have this little dittie from Wis Politics, AN INVESTIGATION OF VOCES DE LA FRONTERA IS ALSO UNDERWAY IN RACINE COUNTY. APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS AGO THE U.S. ATTORNEYÂ’S OFFICE FOR THE EASTERN DISTRICT OF WISCONSIN CONTACTED THE RACINE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEYÂ’S OFFICE. THE U.S. ATTORNEYS OFFICE INDICATED THAT INFORMATION HAD BEEN RECEIVED FROM SUSAN TULLY, OF THE FEDERATION FOR AMERICAN IMMIGRATION REFORM (F.A.I.R.), THAT TWO F.A.I.R. MEMBERS HAD POSED AS PERSONS NOT ELIGIBLE TO VOTE AND THEY HAD REGISTERED AS VOTERS THRU VOCES DE LA FRONTERA IN RACINE AND MILWAUKEE. THE TAPE OF THIS MEETING HAS BEEN REVIEWED BY A COURT-CERTIFIED SPANISH INTERPRETER AT THE REQUEST OF THE DISTRICT ATTORNEYÂ’S OFFICE. BASED ON THAT REVIEW, THERE IS NO CLEAR EVIDENCE THAT A CRIME WAS COMMITTED. IT IS DIFFICULT YO HEAR AND UNDERSTAND WHAT IS BEING SAID ON THE TAPE, AND A TRANSCRIPT HAS NOT YET BEEN PRODUCED. F.A.I.R. HAS INDICATED IN THE PAST THAT THEY WOULD TURN OVER A TRANSCRIPT TO THE DISTRICT ATTORNEYÂ’S OFFICE AND MAKE THE F.A.I.R MEMBERS WHO POSED AS ILLEGAL ALIENS AVAILABLE FOR INTERVIEWS, BUT TO DATE THAT HAS NOT OCCURRED. AT THIS TIME TWO MEMBERS OF F.A.I.R. HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN MADE AVAILABLE TO MAKE POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION OF THE REGISTRATION DEPUTY THEY CLAIM TOOK THEIR FALSE REGISTRATION FORMS. FURTHER, LAW ENFORCEMENT HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO CONFIRM THE ALLEGATIONS OF SUSAN TULLY THAT THE PERSON WHO ACTED AS A REGISTRATION DEPUTY ON THE TAPE IN RACINE WAS AN ILLEGAL ALIEN AND THE ACTUAL REGISTRATION FORMS ARE NOT SIGNED BY REGISTRATION DEPUTY THAT F.A.I.R. ALLEGES COMMITTED THE FRAUD. (Sorry about the caps)

There is so much more, but this gives us an idea of who it is that is now taking to harassing Senators in their homes. This is a group that will go to any length to further their agenda. That agenda, giving illegal immigrants the full rights of citizens or legal immigrants. A key message to you folks, ILLEGAL is not a good thing. This country was founded on legal immigration, you get ahead in America by playing by the rules and working hard. Voces de la Frontera, seems to have little interest in doing that.
